Overview

Please join us for our spring 2024 on-campus open house for admitted students. The day will include program overviews, highlights of our areas of expertise, and Q&A sessions with faculty and current graduate students. For those able to join us in person, you will have additional opportunities for tours of our material fabrication shop and facilities, research labs, studio reviews, and informal conversations with our faculty and current graduate students.  We hope that you are able to attend this in-depth introduction to graduate studies at Cornell.

Getting to Ithaca

Complimentary Bus to Ithaca from Midtown Manhattan*

For those traveling from New York City, our complimentary bus departs Midtown on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at 7 a.m. and arrives on the Ithaca campus at approximately 11:15 a.m.  (Details will be sent to admitted students in all grad programs.) *To register for the bus please do so at the end of the RSVP form.

By Plane

Tompkins County is served by US Airways, Delta, and United flights to and from major cities throughout the country. The Syracuse International Airport is an hour and a quarter drive from Ithaca.

By Bus or Train

Cornell's Campus to Campus bus services run from New York City to Ithaca. Ithaca benefits from transportation services provided by Greyhound, OurBus, MegaBus, and FlixBus, with drop-off locations conveniently situated in Ithaca Downtown. Visitors arriving at these depots can easily access the campus either by taxi or by utilizing the Tompkins Consolidated Area Transit (TCAT) bus service, which offers numerous stops on campus. 

Amtrak offers train services to Syracuse (131 P&C Parkway Syracuse, NY), which is about an hour's drive from Ithaca. From Syracuse, you can rent a car, take a bus, or arrange for a shuttle service to Ithaca. 

By Car

From New York City: Take either the Holland or Lincoln tunnel to Interstate 280 West to Interstate 80 West to Interstate 380 North to Interstate 81 North to the Whitney Point exit. Follow Route 79 to Ithaca. Or you can take the George Washington Bridge to Interstate 80 West and follow the directions above.

From the West: Take the New York State Thruway (Interstate 90) east to exit 42 (Geneva) and Route 96 south to Ithaca; or take the New York State Thruway east to exit 41 (Waterloo) and Route 89 south to Ithaca.

From the North: Take Interstate 81 South to Exit 12 (Homer). Merge onto Route 281 South and continue to Route 13 South. Follow Route 13 South into Ithaca. 

From the South: Take Interstate 81 North to Exit 8 (Whitney Point). Merge onto Route 79 East and continue to Ithaca. 

From the Northeast: Take Interstate 90 West (New York State Thruway) to Exit 25A (Syracuse). Merge onto Interstate 481 South and then onto Interstate 81 South. Follow Interstate 81 South to Exit 12 (Homer). Merge onto Route 281 South and continue to Route 13 South into Ithaca.
