Public Engagement
CRP faculty and students undertake publicly engaged research to inform new modes of planning practice and make change in cities and regions worldwide. Our areas of research and practice prepare the next generation of planners and urbanists to make change today and build a better, more just, and sustainable future for all.
Approaches to Research and Practice
We work closely with community organizations, non-profits, municipalities, and state agencies, as well as private sector companies across the United States and around the world to build partnerships that inform the questions we ask and topics of debates to which we respond.
-
We study planning and policymaking
By using mixed methods, large-scale surveys, interviews with key stakeholders, policymaking, and data analysis.
-
We use urban data science
Quantitative methods, statistical analysis, machine learning and AI, mapping, and counter-mapping, are all ways we use data to study and practice.
-
We practice sustainable urban design and historic preservation
By conserving and preserving materials, deconstructing and reusing buildings, and redesigning public spaces.
-
We observe and understand everyday city life
Qualitative methods, documenting experience, personal interviews, and rereading local histories inform the lasting change we make in communities.
