This project was an exploration of the ability of the thermoforming process to program memory into sheet plastic, to acquire a new resting state after deformation, and to always flex back to this deformed state. This provides pretension and allows the final installation to rest in a state of self-adjusting equilibrium. Using a set of three basic component shapes — a rectangle, a trapezium, and a square — to create 3D deformations on a planar aggregation, we tested multiple ways of using "pinching" to develop form and varying degrees of structural strength along an aggregated surface. Due to the strength of the material — the embedded flexure of the unit surface, and the nature of the connections — the structure is deformable, changeable, but not breakable. The installation displays the ability of plastic to be both rigid and organic while maintaining the lightness of a transparent enclosure.
