In Between Stone and Air

Siting in a marble quarry in Almeria of Spain, the project sought to engage with tectonic means in order to give rise to a formal solution. Taking excavation as a primary operation, the terraced quarry set up a topographic dialogue in which different levels were interconnected through ramps, stairs, and various programmatic means. The built and the excavated spaces created a tension where the interior and exterior space were intertwined.
