Finding Value: Jared Della Valle, CEO, and A.J. Pires, President of Alloy

Founded more than 20 years ago, Alloy is a company of architects and developers. Based in Brooklyn, Alloy's projects promote diversity and complexity in the urban environment. Finding Value is a discussion about a design practice driven by a commitment to positively impact the fabric of the city, while creating enduring value.
Jared Della Valle has been a real estate professional and architect for more than 25 years and has managed the acquisition and pre-development of more than 2 million square feet in New York City, including properties in Chelsea along the Highline, Hudson Yards, DUMBO, and Downtown Brooklyn. He is chair of the Downtown Brooklyn partnership, sits on the board of the the Architecture League of New York. He is also a member of the U.S. Green Building Council.
Della Valle has lectured at major universities and institutions and his work has been the subject of more than 200 articles and publications, including a monograph entitled Think/Make (Princeton Architecture Press, 2009), which featured the work of his previous architecture practice Della Valle Bernheimer. He holds a B.A. from Lehigh University and Master's degrees in both Architecture and Construction Management from Washington University, St. Louis, MO. He is a LEED Certified licensed Architect in New York State, holds an NCARB (National College of Architectural Registration Boards) Certificate, and is a licensed real estate broker and a Fellow of the AIA (American Institute of Architects). He has previously taught at Columbia University, Syracuse University, Washington University, Parsons School of Constructed Environments and Lehigh University.
A.J. Pires has been practicing real estate design and development in New York City for 20 years. He started his career as a project manager for Peter Walker & Partners, working on the World Trade Center Memorial in downtown Manhattan. In 2006, Pires became a founding member of Alloy Development, a Brooklyn-based real estate development company. Alloy is committed to making Brooklyn beautiful, sustainable, and equitable. He manages the acquisition, design, capitalization, construction, stabilization, and disposition of projects that seek to promote thoughtful design and add value to the built environment of New York City.
Pires received a Bachelor of Arts from Amherst College and a MArch and Certificate in Real Estate from the University of Pennsylvania. He teaches and speaks regularly in the fields of real estate development and design and has previously lectured at Syracuse University, Columbia University, New York University, University of Pennsylvania, Parsons and Pratt. He serves on the board of AIA NY, Packer Collegiate Institute, Urban Design Forum, and Community Bank Delaware. He is a Licensed Architect, a LEED Accredited Professional and a Licensed Real Estate Salesperson. AJ lives with his wife and two children in Brooklyn.
