Urban Maker Lab

The Urban Maker Lab engages the emergent fabrication culture strongly associated with the notion of both innovative analog and digital production techniques. Through the ethos of collaborative exchange, prototyping, and entrepreneurial development, the Urban Maker Lab attempts at redefining the spatial mechanisms associated with the architectural slab being that of a space for experimental production. The project yields two major tectonics pulled apart and differentiated while doing so the interiority is revealed. Visibility across different production slabs become the key element of engagement throughout the building. The masses pulled apart create interstitial spaces meant for gathering and repose while at the same time providing vantage points for observation of machinery or works in progress. A main atrium is formed through sectional continuity highlighted by contour frames that vertically elongates the mediated spaces between the two digital or analog production areas.
