Phoenicopteridae Aviary

The bird observatory is the result of an investigation into the essence of the flamingo. The bird is known for its great balancing act, in which it channels all its weight down through a central point of gravity. Using this phenomenon as a starting point for a formal exploration, the aviary emerged.

Located on Werly Island in Beebe Lake, the structure hosts curious visitors and provides amenities for the flock of flamingos. It consists of a series of balanced walkways that release warm water into the cold lake on each end. Thereby the birds are provided with a comfortable habitat while the visitors can observe the bird. By lifting the structure above the ground the island itself remains undisturbed.
