The preschool design is rooted in explorations of interlocking plywood construction systems. Angled cuts create strong friction fits and encourage curved forms, which create pinching action. The two mirrored panels reconfigure to mix sensory experiences. The daycare in downtown Ithaca borrows on this playfulness of curves and transparency and takes on the language of a forest. The complexity acts as an extension of the forest along the river, taking on forest layer logic: a ground for circulation, an understory for the program, and a canopy for protection.  Layers pivot around enclosed rooms and offer a seamless, communal experience venturing between inside and out.
