Adam Shulman

Shushan, New York

When choosing colleges, I couldn't picture myself only as an academic or an artist; AAP's new B.F.A. program will challenge me to become both, while providing resources and a priceless experience in the broad university setting.

Why did you choose Cornell and AAP?

Cornell's reputation as one of the great learning centers of the world has attracted a diversity of brilliant people, and I want to learn among them. The setting and location of the campus are ideal for a kid coming from Upstate New York. When choosing colleges, I couldn't picture myself only as an academic or an artist; AAP's new B.F.A. program will challenge me to become both, while providing resources and a priceless experience in the broad university setting.

What inspired you to become an artist?

Art is "just one of those things" that feels right to do. I enjoy experiencing and creating it. Having grown up among artists and musicians, I have experienced a life that I think I would be happy living.

What are your extracurricular interests and how have you incorporated them into your college life?

Acting, video and electronic music production, singing, piano, skiing, hiking, and biking.

What do you hope to accomplish during your time at AAP and after graduation?

I'd like to learn to be able to create museum-worthy pieces. I will enjoy and appreciate art while finding ways for my academic work to influence my creations. But, most importantly, I'd like to let the next few years take me where they will!
