Kristin Lucas: Hey You Sandpipers

Kristin Lucas's experimental, double-edged work blurs boundaries and leverages imagination and play within a labyrinth of everyday systems and paradigms. Lucas's work often involves exchange and collaboration with communities, audiences, local groups, and specialists, including a judge, celebrity impersonators, special f/x artists, conservation scientists, technologists, mixologists, and AI entities. Each work is a proposition for the redistribution of power and agency, and focuses on welcoming, exploring, reimagining, questioning, and occasionally innovating.

Lucas has been featured in Art in America, Artforum, Engadget, and Hyperallergic, and her work has been presented nationally and internationally through microcinemas, festivals, apps, browsers, biennales, galleries, museums, curatorial platforms, fundraisers, a zoo habitat, and in public space. She is a member of Collective Task, an international group of artists and poets who respond to prompts and perform and publish together, and she contributes to the international working group StoriesXFuture. Lucas is represented by And/Or Gallery, Postmasters, and Electronic Arts Intermix, and her immersive augmented reality experience Dance with flARmingos was selected for the Radiance VR international research platform. Lucas earned her degrees in art from The Cooper Union and Stanford University, and she teaches Expanded Media and DIY Practices at the University of Texas at Austin.
