Ana María Gómez López: Anatomical Minutiae and Particular Temporalities
Ana María Gómez López is an interdisciplinary artist, researcher, and educator. Her durational and body-based work centers on biological and historical definitions of life and has been exhibited at the deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum, Fonds d'art contemporain Genève, Rijksmuseum Boerhaave, V2_Lab for Unstable Media, and Rencontres Internationales Paris/Berlin, among others. She completed an M.F.A. at the Yale University School of Art and holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in anthropology from the University of Pennsylvania. She has been a resident artist at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten, Cité Internationale des Arts, Skowhegan School for Painting and Sculpture, and Akademie Schloss Solitude. In addition, she has held fellowships at the Osler Library for the History of Medicine, Beinecke Rare Books and Manuscripts Library, International Institute for Social History, and the Max Planck Institute for History of Science, where she is a member of the Animal Mobilities Working Group. Gómez López was coeditor of The Colombia Reader: History, Culture, Politics (Duke University Press, 2017) and has previous and forthcoming articles in Performance Research, Cabinet Magazine, Osiris, and the British Journal for History of Science. In recognition of artistic merit, she was the recipient in 2015 of the Premio Nacional de Artes (National Award in the Arts) in Colombia. She currently teaches in the spatial practices graduate program at the Sandberg Institute in Amsterdam.
