The Graduate Minor in City and Regional Planning (CRP) for nonmajors has been formulated specifically for any graduate student at Cornell not enrolled in the Master of Regional Planning (M.R.P.) program.
Master's students from any discipline at Cornell — except M.R.P. — are invited to enroll in the graduate minor and take advantage of the wide variety of CRP classes offered.
Upon successful completion of the required classes, the Graduate Minor in City and Regional Planning will appear on a graduate student's official Cornell transcript.
Curriculum Requirements
The curriculum for students in the Graduate Minor in City and Regional Planning Program for Nonmajors:
- The minor is fulfilled with a minimum of four classes, totaling a minimum of 12 credit hours
- Students take one required class and three electives (at the 5000 level or higher)
- A minimum 3.0 GPA is required for all coursework completed for the minor
- Students must have a faculty member from the graduate field of city and regional planning appointed as a minor member of their committee. If the student does not have a committee structure in their degree
program, they will be assigned an advisor in City and Regional Planning.

Students interested in pursuing the Graduate Minor in City and Regional Planning should complete this form and return it to the CRP office, 106 Sibley Hall. If you have any questions, please schedule an appointment with the director of graduate studies before turning in the form.
Required Coursework:
Students have two required to take one of the following two theory courses (4 credits minimum):
- CRP 5130 Introduction to Planning Practice and History, 4 credits
- CRP 5190 Urban Theory, 4 credits
Elective Coursework:
Students select three additional CRP classes at the 5000 level or higher. Please note: Class enrollment is subject to prerequisites. The director of graduate studies approves all students' programs of study, can disqualify any class, and accept other classes as electives. Class availability changes each semester. Students may not use independent study credit to satisfy this requirement.
