Sauvanithi Yupho

A native of Bangkok, Thailand, Sauvanithi Yupho has practiced as an urban planner and designer in several consulting organizations, working in a range of master planning and comprehensive plan projects throughout the Chiang Mai Province. At Cornell, Sauvanithi's interest examined the vulnerabilities of community infrastructure from climate change and sea-level rise. Sauvanithi served as a research assistant for Assistant Professor Linda Shi, where she returned to Bangkok in December 2018 to collect data and conduct interviews with various professionals to determine the city's resiliency measures in comparison to other global cities.

In 2019, Sauvanithi was the recipient of the John W. Reps Planning Pioneer Award, which recognized her research endeavors related to environmental governance and planning practices. Additionally, she and her workshop teammates received the Student Project Award by the American Planning Association for their work conducted in the Coastal Adaptation to Climate Change workshop taught by Assistant Professor Linda Shi.

In the fall, Sauvanithi will be pursuing her Ph.D. studies in geography at Rutgers University.
