The Ithaca Aviation Museum is a proposal for a satellite exhibition space that features airplanes that were designed and tested by Glenn Curtiss. The proposal evolves through an investigation of the surrounding topography in conjunction with the aerodynamic flying machines intended to be housed within the structure. These elements generated a design that consists of two sloping surfaces that become an extension of the existing ground plane. The project is sited in a vibrant and charming natural valley where the Cayuga Lake inlet meets the City of Ithaca. The design facilitates a dynamic public interaction with the architecture by way of new and existing footpaths, creating a harmonious extension to the collectively used green space and waterfront.
