Permeable: House with Three Gaps

This project is about permeability — the permeability of water, light, movement, and views through the gaps of the site. The gaps in Tokyo residential blocks are a missed opportunity for cultivating a network of relationships from house to house, house to street, and therefore from person to house and person to person. This project is two houses for two strangers, and their houses produce a new prototype for a gap. There are three gaps: one facing the street that acts as a stern facade for the public and a reaction towards the wet environment, one in between the two new houses that introduces vibrations between the neighbors through this new gap facade, and one between the new house and the old that provides a beautiful wetland.
