Depth of Field: Tao DuFour on We Love We Self Up Here
Cornell AAP presents the first iteration of Depth of Field, a short video with Assistant Professor Tao DuFour, architecture, who discusses his transdisciplinary, collaborative film that captures labor, migration, and landscape in Trinidad and Tobago through the history, experiences, and stories of a few persons.
Assistant Professor of Architecture Tao DuFour briefly discusses We Love We Self Up Here, a documentary film made in collaboration with filmmaker Kannan Arunasalam and Cornell College of Arts & Sciences Associate Professor of Comparative Literature Natalie Melas. An extension of Cornell University's fall 2019 Mellon Collaborative Seminar titled Atmospheric Pressures: Climate Imaginaries and Migration in the Caribbean, We Love We Self Up Here captures complex histories of labor and migration in Trinidad and Tobago through the intimate stories of a few persons. The spaces of narration — domestic, neighborhood, and landscape — emerge as themselves "characters," architectural and landscape witnesses to long processes of social and environmental change.
