Xiaozhong Sun
Xiaozhong Sun is a former Ph.D. student in regional science. His research interest centers around spatial inequality and local economic development. Notably, he is interested in the critical role of government policy in shaping regional economic development and how that contributes to regional disparities. He is interested in applying quasi-experiment quantitative empirical methods to find meaningful causal mechanisms of policy-related economic shocks.
Before joining the Ph.D. program, he was a former city and regional planning student at Cornell University. He also holds a master's degree in land use management from the Renmin University of China and a B.E. in land use management from Nanjing Agricultural University.

- CRP 4080 Introduction to GISGeographic Information Systems (GIS) have revolutionized the way we manage, analyze, and present spatial information. This course focuses on GIS in the social sciences. Many of the exercises and examples are based on planning issues, but the concepts can be applied to many other disciplines such as government, economics, natural resources, and sociology. Some of the issues covered include fundamentals of spatial analysis; overview of GIS technology and applications; designing a GIS project; gathering and analyzing data; and creating thematic maps.
