Erin Miller: Tap Tap

This event has passed.

Abstract designs in green, orange, blue, purple, brown.

Tap Tap (2021), watercolor monotype, silkscreen, 30" x 40".

The sculptures and prints presented in Tap Tap are investigations into mind-body perceptions—particularly how sensorial responses can be sparked by something unexpected: the sound of nails tapping on glass; on chains; on pistachio shells. Citing imagery sourced from online ASMR video channels, Tap Tap embodies the feelings elicited by watching clips like "ASMR Tapping For Sleep/Relaxation (Long Nails & Whispering)" and "The ̶W̶e̶a̶k̶e̶s̶t̶ Tingliest Links (Chain Sounds / ASMR)". These sensorial triggers, which are often closely tied to memory, elicit a wide range of feelings such as anxiety, relaxation, pleasure, sadness, and so on; they have the ability to mesmerize you, to suck you into the blue screen and spit you back out without the interruption of a sponsored ad or lousy internet connection.

Tap Tap features work from Erin Miller (M.F.A. '22).

Masks are required to be worn at all times while in the Tjaden and Experimental Galleries.
