Erin Miller: Tap Tap

The sculptures and prints presented in Tap Tap are investigations into mind-body perceptions—particularly how sensorial responses can be sparked by something unexpected: the sound of nails tapping on glass; on chains; on pistachio shells. Citing imagery sourced from online ASMR video channels, Tap Tap embodies the feelings elicited by watching clips like "ASMR Tapping For Sleep/Relaxation (Long Nails & Whispering)" and "The ̶W̶e̶a̶k̶e̶s̶t̶ Tingliest Links (Chain Sounds / ASMR)". These sensorial triggers, which are often closely tied to memory, elicit a wide range of feelings such as anxiety, relaxation, pleasure, sadness, and so on; they have the ability to mesmerize you, to suck you into the blue screen and spit you back out without the interruption of a sponsored ad or lousy internet connection.
