Announcing the Multicollege Department of Design Tech

Dear AAP Community — 

I am writing to share that today, the university will launch a new multicollege Department of Design Tech. We reached this milestone after several years of conversation between five colleges, that together, advance design and technology in distinct yet mutually beneficial ways. 

Bridging fields and faculty, Design Tech will be administered by Cornell AAP in partnership with the College of Human Ecology, the Cornell Ann S. Bowers College of Computing and Information Science, Cornell Engineering, and Cornell Tech. Jenny Sabin, Arthur L. and Isabel B. Wiesenberger Professor in Architecture, will serve as the department's inaugural chair.

We are incredibly grateful to Jenny for her leadership and vision, as well as for the insight, support, and contributions of so many who have made the establishment of the new multicollege department of Design Tech possible.

Pending New York State approval, we anticipate that the department's first degree offering will be an interdisciplinary master's in design technology that will launch during the 2024–25 academic year. Here is a Cornell Chronicle article with additional details about the department.
