Douglas Ross

Douglas Ross lives in Queens, New York. Using multiple mediums including photographic objects, animations, drawing, writing, textiles, and various machines, his art develops through conceptions of place, time, historicity, and event, or how anthropocentrism works. Ross has participated in exhibitions and screenings at MoMA PS1; SculptureCenter, Queens; the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis; Miami MOCA; Rotterdam Film Festival, Netherlands; Netwerk Galerij, Belgium; Museum Villa Stuck, Munich; New Museum, New York City; and Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis, among other venues. Fellowships and grants include Socrates Sculpture Park, Nancy Graves Foundation, Asian Cultural Council, and the Smithsonian Institution. Studio and artist-in-residence programs include Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, MoMA PS1 International Studio Program, Atlantic Center for the Arts, Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, and ARCUS Project, Ibaraki. Ross has held visiting and assistant professor appointments at Tokyo Geijutsu Daigaku, RISD, Cornell University, and Pratt Institute. He earned a B.F.A. in fine art from Parsons School of Design/The New School, and an M.F.A. in computer art from School of Visual Arts in New York City.
