Art Independent Study Enrollment Form

Independent study courses in the Department of Art are offered on the Ithaca campus in the fall and spring semesters only. Students enroll for variable credit, for up to a maximum of 2 credits. Enrollment in an independent study requires an approved Art Independent Study Form. The Art Independent Study form must be submitted a semester in advance. For example, if you plan to enroll in an art independent study course for the fall semester, the form must be completed and turned in the previous spring semester.

  • ART 3091 Directed Readings in Art
  • ART 3092 Independent Studio in Art
  • ART 3093 Directed Research in Art

Eligibility requirements for enrolling in an independent study (independent studio, directed readings, directed research):*

  • Successful completion of the 2000-level and one 3000-level studio in the studio practice area;
  • A cumulative GPA of 2.7 or better required; and
  • Enrollment in Ithaca during the fall or spring semester

*Out-of-department students may be exempt from these requirements at the discretion of the supervising professor.

Independent studio courses (ART 3092) are applied as free elective credit only.

  1. Print the form and attach an abstract.
  2. Bring the completed form, including abstract, to the supervising instructor for approval.
  3. After the supervising instructor has approved, the form and abstract should be brought to the Department of Art, 224 Tjaden Hall, for department chair approval.
  4. Finally, the approved form and abstract should be submitted to Student Services, B56 Sibley Hall, for processing.

  3. After the supervising instructor has approved, the form and abstract should be brought to your faculty advisor/committee chair for approval and signature.
  4. Bring the form to the Department of Art, 224 Tjaden Hall, to obtain the class ID number associated with the supervising instructor.
  5. Finally, the approved form and abstract with signatures and class ID should be submitted to Student Services, B56 Sibley Hall, for processing.
