Digital classroom in Sibley Hall

Computer Support

AAP IT Services is now located in the Sibley Dome (formerly the Fine Arts Library). We provide limited support for a variety of hardware and software including free support for students, faculty, and staff:

  • Troubleshoot and fix Windows/Mac OS problems
  • Troubleshoot and repair laptop, desktop, and limited phones / tablets
  • Custom PC consulting / building
Please note, we do not pay for parts.

 

Printing

The AAP computing facilities offer a total of seven black laser printers, seven color laser printers, and 10 wide-format plotters. The labs utilize Cornell's Net-Print accounting program to manage and track all print jobs and user accounts balances.

Color Printing

  • 8.5 "x 11" = $.30 per sheet (non-duplex printer)
  • 11" x 17" = $.30 per sheet (non-duplex printer)

Black & White Printing

  • 8.5" x 11" = $.10 per sheet (duplex not included)
  • 11" x 17" = $.10 per sheet (duplex not included)

Plotting (Milstein Hall / Sibley Hall Plotters)

Heavyweight Bond paper is preloaded for your convenience at $15 per plot. Two additional Milstein plotters are loaded with Glossy and Mylar (pl4 and pl5) at $20 per plot. Length is capped (printer limitation) at 100 inches.

 

Plotting (Tjaden Hall)

All plotting must be done with a lab monitor present as billing is done through CornellCard or a preapproved check. Please check the schedule on the door of 221D for up-to-date hours of availability. You may also schedule an appointment for printing by sending an email with your preferred time to aap_adml@cornell.edu.

Printing on the 4800 / 4900: Pricing is set at $2 per square foot on paper provided by you. You can purchase paper at the Cornell Store or at online stores such as Parrot Digigraphics. The Advanced Digital Media Lab (ADML) supplies glossy and matte 17" rolls for printing at $4.50 and $6 per linear foot.

Printing on the 9600 / 9900: Prices are generated by the inch with a minimum of 11" (length). Paper is supplied (see paper list below) and prints must be paid in full via CornellCard or personal check at time of pickup.

Scanning

AAP is equipped with several scanners throughout the college.

  • 42" sheet fed scanner (HP) in Sibley Dome (please seek approval from the IT Services Counter before scanning).
  • Epson GT-15000 11x17" flatbed scanner, two in Milstein Hall, one in Sibley Geddes Lab
  • Epson Expression 10000xl 11x17" flatbed scanner with slide holders - Tjaden Hall, ADML

 

Documentation

AAP has dedicated B41 E. Sibley hall to a small documentation space. A Canon EOS Rebel T2i 18MP CMOS Sensor equipped with a Canon EF 1740mm f/4L USM Lens (Super Wide Angle Zoom Lens, with UV filter) can be checked out of the AAP Equiment cage located in the Fine Arts Library for up to three hours. This box is also equipped with the key to the documentation space. If you would like to use your own camera the key can be checked out separately. The room is equipped with two Scandles fluorescent fixtures with eight tubes 5300K (with four leaf barndoors and aluminum cone reflectors). One Complete AutoPole Expan Kit Black 3 Roll setup with Gray, White, and Black backdrops.

You must fill out the this form and agree to the terms to receive access to the space.

Rendering

AAP has 20 Amazon Ec2 Clusters on reserve. Each of these remote instances are equipped with 88EC2 units (equivalent to approximately an 88ghz i7 machine), 64GB of RAM, 64bit Windows, Rhino 4, Rhino 5, Vray 1, Vray 2, and Maya. Please follow the steps below to gain access to them.

  • Ensure your project is 100% ready to render (passes a 640x480 render check in less than 10 minutes).
  • Zip up your entire project / materials and Cornell Dropbox them to yourself (we are working on a better delivery system).
  • Send an email to aap-render@cornell.edu and instructions will be sent for log in, including a user name and password.
  • On Windows you can click start and type Remote Desktop. On a Mac please download this document.
  • After using your instance please "shutdown" the machine from the start menu (unless you are instructed to do otherwise).
  • Specific instructions will be sent to you with your scheduled confirmation.

 

Software

The Cornell store offers a variety of software at a drastically reduced price. Please note, some links take you to third party purchasers that the AAP IT Services team holds in high regard for customer service and satisfaction.
