The underground transportation system in Seoul, also known as the "super highway," has been described as the world's longest multi-operator metro system by route length. Subway lines connect everything and allow for easy navigation. A complex network of subterranean spaces form an underground world that the public uses for transportation and leisure. While these spaces include certain public programs such as plazas and theaters they are primarily highly commercialized generic retail spaces. This project aims to introduce new typologies and experiences to the underground territories of Seoul. Three carefully chosen sites provide a critique of the current underground condition while speculating on future possibilities.
