Benedict Clouette

Benedict Clouette is a founding partner of Interval Projects, an architecture and urbanism practice based in New York City. Prior to forming Interval Projects in 2016 with partner Marlisa Wise, Clouette worked for the Office for Metropolitan Architecture and was the founding Research Director of C-Lab, a research unit on architecture and urbanism at the Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation (GSAPP). Benedict is also an architectural historian and theorist and a doctoral candidate at Columbia University GSAPP. His dissertation considers the image cultures of twentieth-century American urban design and architecture, as well as the use of surveys and statistical mapping techniques in large-scale urban projects, infrastructure, and land-use planning.

With Marlisa Wise, he is the author of the book Forms of Aid: Architectures of Humanitarian Space (2017). His essays and interviews have appeared in numerous publications, including Domus, San Rocco, Volume, Harvard Design Magazine, and The Architect’s Newspaper, as well as the book Elements of Architecture (2014 / 2018), edited by Rem Koolhaas. He has taught design studios and seminars at Syracuse University, Columbia University GSAPP, and Parsons School of Design.
