Mellon Opportunities for Students

Three people explore a field adjacent to the edge of a city.

Mellon Collaborative Studies offers two opportunities for students: course fellowships and the Social Impact Internship Award.

Course Fellowships

The Mellon Collaborative Studies in Architecture, Urbanism, and the Humanities are conceived as the initial phase of student research projects in comparative urban studies. All students enrolled in the seminars will be challenged to produce research of substantive quality that advances their studies. Fellows are expected to attend seminar-related workshops, special curatorial sessions, and final jury-style presentations as a condition of accepting the fellowship.

Fellowships to participate in the seminars are competitive and awarded by application.

Eligibility: AAP and A&S graduate students or advanced undergraduates.

Award: $1,500 research stipend + travel support for seminar-related off-campus travel.

Timeframe: Applications are currently closed.

The Mellon Social Impact Internship Award

In partnership with the Mellon Collaborative Studies seminar series, AAP Career Development coordinates the Mellon Social Impact Internship Award for AAP students. The purpose of Mellon Social Impact Internship funding is to support students in their pursuit of an internship or opportunity that introduces them to the inner workings of a public service organization while getting on-the-ground experience in specific practices of designing for justice. Six students will be selected for the award, which will offset internship-related expenses, including transportation, housing, and food.

Eligibility: Current AAP students

Award: $5,000

Timeframe:

  • Applications open: April 1, 2026
  • Applications due: April 30, 2026

This summer was a busy, challenging, heartwarming, and deeply meaningful experience. It asked a lot of me and of our team, and it gave a lot back: sharper strategy, stronger partnerships, and a clearer, more grounded path forward. I am grateful to the Mellon Impact Award Committee for their support. Their investment allowed me to remain physically, emotionally, and mentally afloat while doing work that matters to me and to my community.
