Group Exhibition: Temperance

Abstract

Temperance considers the space between restraint and release, control and abandon, discipline and desire. Rather than perfect balance, the exhibitors understand temperance as the ability to hold opposing forces at once. As young artists, Isabella Veckerelli, Kaia Miller, and Molly Nowlan (all B.F.A. ’29) feel this tension intimately. They have chosen to study and pursue the things they are most passionate about, while simultaneously learning how to build futures that feel successful, sustainable, and secure.

In a world governed by practicality and achievement, committing to art can feel both liberating and strangely uncertain. They are constantly negotiating between creating for the sake of creation and questioning where that passion will take them.

Through sculpture, works on paper, and sound, the exhibition becomes a reflection of their own experience: trying to remain grounded while wanting to break free, pursuing their passions while planning their futures, and learning how to exist somewhere between the two. Perhaps temperance is not finding balance, but learning to live within the tension of never fully having it.
