Abstract
This is a constantly changing exhibit tackling a dwelling perspective through the act of vivification: the moment at which an architectural structure becomes a living residence. Landscape is explored as a perpetual task of moving objects and adapting to an environment that often feels foreign. Space is continuously brought to life and altered by ongoing dwelling and physical work inside and outside of the gallery. Through the ever-growing gesture of collecting materials, and arranging them into a hoard or hoarding structure as temporary shed-like construction. This is an experimental approach to rethink the exhibition space through active rhythms of work, social interaction, and spatial and environmental needs. Visitors are entangled as active contributors and recipients in an ongoing process.
Biography
Lilian Shtereva
Lilian Shtereva (b. 1994, Bulgaria) is an M.F.A. candidate in Creative Visual Arts at Cornell University, following a B.F.A. from Hunter College, CUNY (2025). Her recent solo exhibition how to fix a leaking ceiling was presented at Cornell University (2026). Her work has appeared in group exhibitions such as The New Valuable: Contemporary Bulgarian Craft at the Etar Museum, Gabrovo, Bulgaria, Coda at the Bertha and Karl Leubsdorf Gallery, New York, and Prayer/Pattern/Prayer at Morgan Lehman Gallery, New York (2025). Shtereva was awarded a Cornell Council for the Arts Grant and the Michele Sicca Research Grant (2026), and has held residencies at IATRUS, Bulgaria (2024), Walkaway House, North Adams, Massachusetts (2022), and Nocefresca, Sardinia (2022).
