Ostia Levante: Rome’s Neighborhood on the Sea

During our semester-long study of Ostia Levante, we immersed ourselves in the community to understand the neighborhood and its history from a local lens. Although we are approaching Ostia Levante from an outsider perspective, we aimed to perform a comprehensive assessment of the neighborhood through quantitative and qualitative analysis. This includes methods such as geospatial and statistical analysis, intercept surveys, and stakeholder interviews. Our research aims to deepen our understanding of beach privatization, the subsequent limitation of public and private access, and how that affects Ostia Levante economically and environmentally, an area that remains under-researched due to limited data availability.
