Heavyheart

Cagla Sokullu's recent series of artworks, Heavyheart, investigates chaos versus the calm, violence versus celebration, and where the lines blur between the two. Originating from images of the Gezi events in Istanbul, 2013, and moving on to similar images from all over the globe, the series explores the moments where people seek to have a voice or where they lose it. When put together, where and when these images come from start to lose meaning, all blend together and highlight each other's similarities. It does not matter if it is from Turkey, Paris or Charlottesville, the emotion, the people, and the struggle is all the same.

Sokullu's solo exhibition Heavyheartwas shown in the Experimental Gallery at Cornell University from October 28–November 3, 2018.
