For a Short Time, Not a Long Time

a painting of a young woman wearing headphones surrounded by objects
A collection of motifs that follow me into my Rome experience like a sprawl of knick-knacks in my survival bag. Gouache on board.

For every new semester, I assign myself a theme that my work will encompass. Spontaneity has always been part of my work, as my art has no rules and follows where my heart takes my hand. The impulsive choices that come from spontaneity are what create my composition and the collage-like nature of my illustrations. They don’t appear to follow logic, but the base is always of myself and my experiences. I care deeply for the viewers’ fun rather than so much about how successful their guesses are; I invite people to be comfortable in leaving this piece lost rather than to be so bothered at finding “meaning.”
