From the generous contributions of the AAP alumni community, the AAP Student Support Fund has been established to assist students with unmet financial need in pursuit of their academic goals. The fund provides assistance for students when finances are hindering their path to academic success.

These funds are available to assist current full-time, undergraduate AAP students, who receive financial aid, and full-time, delegated graduate AAP students (M.Arch., M.R.P., M.F.A. CVA, M.S. AAD, M.S. AUD, M.P.S. RE), who demonstrate financial need. Students must be enrolled in an on-campus program at Cornell’s Ithaca location or in an AAP-approved off-campus site (Cornell in Rome or AAP NYC).

The fund provides access to financial support up to $500 per semester for undergraduate students and $300 per semester for graduate students.

Note: Funding is not available for winter or summer sessions. Additionally, funding cannot be awarded retroactively — please plan ahead for non-emergency needs.

Please read all of the following information before you submit your application.

Funding Guidelines

What is the intention of this fund?

This fund is to support students who have an urgent financial need that impacts their ability to complete their degree program at AAP. We ask students to speak to how this funding will have an impact on their journey at the college. This fund is limited in scope and you are not guaranteed approval for your request. Please schedule a meeting with Drew Aliyah Valentine (they/she) if you have any questions.

What type of expenses may be covered?

The AAP Student Support Fund can cover expenses that are not otherwise covered by financial aid or another Cornell University resource. Before applying to the AAP Student Support Fund, please review all the options provided above. The committee reviews each application holistically and will meet with you to review other funding options if the Student Support Fund cannot support your request.

Undergraduate professional experience conference participation may qualify for funding, with semester request caps in place. The AAP Student Support Fund does not cover conference costs for graduate and professional degree students; all graduate and professional degree students should work with their academic departments and university resources for funding options.

To ensure alignment with your department’s academic focus, approval from a relevant faculty member/advisor is necessary to be eligible for professional experience funding. Conference and presentation funding should always first be discussed with your academic department. The AAP Student Support Fund is for needs your department or other university resources cannot meet.

If you are applying for support towards an internship experience, your application must include your internship letter of acceptance.

We do not cover the Baker Program Trek expenses and other program-specific experiences outlined in your admissions process.

What type of expenses may not be covered?

This is not an exhaustive list, but expenses not covered include winter gear, tuition, university fees, meal plans, groceries, parking tickets, late fees, Cornell ID replacement, credit card debt, storage, fees associated with graduate school, textbooks, rent, or other academic expenses (e.g., supplies for a course) calculated into the cost of attendance as part of the student’s financial aid package. Funding is not available for personal technology (iPad, computer, etc), new laptops, academic supplies, or furniture. We can cover the costs (up to $300) to fix a laptop if you submit a quote from the AAP IT Team.
