A painter and arts writer, Sharon Butler is widely known as the founder of Two Coats of Paint, a project that includes an online art journal, an artists residency, a small press, and other creative initiatives. The journal has been sponsored by numerous arts organizations including the Creative Capital Warhol Foundation Art Writers Program. She is affiliated with Theodore:ART, a gallery in Brooklyn, New York, where she had solo exhibitions in 2016 and 2018.
Butler received her M.F.A. from the University of Connecticut in 1994, her B.F.A. from Massachusetts College of Art in 1987, and her B.A. from Tufts University in 1981.

- ART 2201 Introduction to PaintingStudies the language of painting through color, form, materials, and techniques. Aspects of traditional and modern pictorial composition are studied including proportion, space, and color theory through the representation of a variety of subjects.

Drawing here is conceived both as a self-sufficient medium and as a tool useful for the conceptual and practical development of ideas in other media.
