Max Kreminski is a researcher in human–computer interaction with a focus on designing expressive and approachable computational systems that support creative work and play. Their research has introduced creativity support tools for storytelling, poetry, and game design, as well as domain-general methods for assessing the impact of such tools on creative practice. Kreminski is currently a research scientist at Midjourney, where they direct the Storytelling Lab. They previously served as an assistant professor of computer science and engineering at Santa Clara University. Kreminski holds a Ph.D. in computational media from the University of California, Santa Cruz, where they were a member of the Expressive Intelligence Studio. Their professional experience includes residencies at Stochastic Labs, consulting for game industry and technology companies, and research positions in several laboratories, most notably the Mobile and Environmental Media Lab at the University of Southern California. Kreminski will begin a dual appointment in the multicollege Department of Design Tech and Cornell Tech in July 2026.
