Visual artist Liana Miuccio uses photography and videography to explore identity, memory, and migration. Miuccio is a dual citizen of Italy and the USA, was raised in New York, and currently lives in her birth city of Rome. She received her bachelor’s degree in humanities from McGill University in Montreal, Canada, and a master’s degree in cinema, video, and television at the University of Roma Tre. Miuccio was a Visiting Artist at the American Academy of Rome in fall 2022 and is also an Arts Advisor at the American Academy in Rome.
Miuccio’s solo exhibition in 2023 at the Galleria D’Arte Moderna in Rome was sponsored by the American Academy in Rome and Temple University Rome. Other solo exhibitions include La Casa della Memoria/FOTOGRAFIA Internazionale in Rome, the Ellis Island Immigration Museum in New York, Villa Trabia, Palermo, Sicily, and the University of Pennsylvania’s Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology.
Her photographs have been published in numerous publications including the New York Times, Financial Times, Vogue, Boston Globe, Globe and Mail, Repubblica’s “D”, Il Corriere della Sera, l’Espresso, and L’Internazionale. Miuccio’s photographs are also in the permanent collection of the Museum of the City of New York.
