Jeff Budsberg is an Academy Award–winning effects supervisor who has been with DreamWorks for more than eight years. His film history at DreamWorks includes Kung Fu Panda 3, How to Train your Dragon 2, Mr. Peabody & Sherman, The Croods, Shrek Forever After, and Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa.
His recent accomplishments include receiving a Sci-Tech Academy Award for the DreamWorks foliage toolset, an Annie Award win and VES Awards nomination for effects on The Croods, an unprecedented four consecutive DreamWorks Technical Achievement Awards, a VES nomination for effects on Shrek Forever After, and frequen presentations of his production research at SIGGRAPH and DigiPro.
Previously, Budsberg has worked at Pacific Data Images and Pixar, and received an M.S. in computer graphics, minor in computer science, and a B.F.A. in painting at Cornell University.
Among his most influential experiences at Cornell, Budsberg cites his time at Cornell in Rome. He says, "During my time in Rome I developed a relationship with Professor Don Greenberg, which led to me joining his masters program, a career in animation, and a life-long friendship."
Budsberg also highlights the Painting III class with art's Associate Professor Stan Taft for "the deep exploration in artists' pigments and materials, which was the impetus behind my master's research, encouraging the fusing of art and science."
Today, he is head of effects on The Croods 2, and is heavily involved in the FX-Lighting pipeline and OpenVDB toolset.
