Gail Fitzgerald
Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, in 1962, Gail Fitzgerald earned a B.F.A. from MassArt in 1985. In 1986, she moved to New York's Lower East Side where she connected with the confluence of artists and musicians who presided over the East Village art scene. For more than thirty years, Fitzgerald's work has engaged the material and pictorial concerns related to the exploration of painting in the expanded field. She had her first solo show at Bess Cutler Gallery in 1989 and has participated in group and solo exhibitions at Bill Arning Exhibitions, Randy Alexander, Julian Pretto, Blum Helman, José Freire, and Carroll and Sons galleries, among other venues. Her most recent solo exhibition, Brain Freeze, was held at Peep Projects (Philadelphia) in 2022. Other exhibitions include Pop Rocks at Neighbors Gallery in Ithaca, Calling Occupants at the DeKalb Gallery at Pratt, Locally Sourced at the Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art at Cornell University, and Relativity Suite at the Pitch Project, Milwaukee. Fitzgerald's work has been reviewed in The New York Times, The Boston Globe, Art in America, and Arts Magazine. She has taught at The Cooper Union, Caldwell University, and Cornell University.
