Cornell Holds Leading Positions in 2017 Rankings of America's Top Architecture Schools
Cornell has retained its leading positions in this year's annual rankings of top architecture schools — number one for undergraduate programs and number two for graduate programs (tied with MIT). The survey, published in Architectural Record and titled "America's Best Architecture and Design Schools," is conducted annually by DesignIntelligence (DI).
To reach the 2017 rankings, CEOs and principals of more than 2,000 firms were asked to list the 10 programs that best prepare architecture students for success. Combined with their selections of the best programs teaching design, computer applications, sustainability, and construction methods and materials, almost 3,000 students were also polled on the quality of their program and their plans for after graduation.
"I am obviously very pleased to see that our two professional degree programs have maintained their exceptional national rankings again this year," said Mark Cruvellier, department chair and Nathaniel and Margaret Owings Professor of Architecture. "This is certainly a testament to what we know to be true but perhaps get too accustomed to — the extraordinary creativity and talent as well as the collective efforts of our students, faculty, and staff alike."
Caroline O'Donnell is director of the department's M.Arch. program. "We are delighted to have maintained the excellent ranking again this year," she said. "We have an incredible program, talented and hard-working students, and an extremely dedicated faculty, so although it's no surprise to us, it is great to see it acknowledged in the broader architecture community."
