Bio:
Akunyili Crosby was born in Enugu, Nigeria in 1983 and currently lives and works in Los Angeles. She was a participant in the 58th International Venice Biennale of Art, May You Live In Interesting Times, curated by Ralph Rugoff (May 11–24 and November 2019). Recent solo exhibitions include Njideka Akunyili Crosby: The Beautyful Ones at the National Portrait Gallery, London (2018–19); and Counterparts, Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, Texas (2018–19), Baltimore Museum of Art, Baltimore, Maryland (2017–18). She is the recipient of an honorary doctorate of fine arts degree from the University of the Arts, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (2020), an honorary doctorate of art from Swarthmore College, Swarthmore, Pennsylvania (2019), a MacArthur Fellowship (2017), and was awarded Financial Times' Women of the Year award in 2016.
