Mithu Sen: Body/Nobody
Born in West Bengal, India, Mithu Sen now lives and works in New Delhi. She received a B.F.A. in painting in 1995 and an M.F.A. in painting in 1997 from Visva Bharati, Kala Bhavan, Santinketan and in 2001 studied at the Glasgow School of Art.
Sen has become a prominent figure in Indian contemporary art. Her work concerns individual interiority and femininity with a touch of eroticism, while working in a range of media including collage, sculpture, drawing, and installations. Sen has exhibited around the world at such venues as Galleria Nathalie Obadia, Paris; NatureMorte, Singapore; Albion Gallery, London; Gallery Espace, New Delhi; DEN Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; and Square One Gallery, New York City.
Among the many awards and residencies she has received are the Skoda Prize in Indian Contemporary Art and a Awagami Momat Residency (Tokyo). Sen was a Bose Pacia Artist in Residence (New York City), a Lijiang Studio Residency (Yunnan), and a Government of India Junior Fellowship.
