Lawrence S. Ng Cornell in Rome Lecture Series

Abstract

The Lawrence S. Ng Cornell in Rome Lecture Series features outstanding practitioners in the field based in Europe speaking on architecture and urban design. This installment welcomes Xavier Ros Majó of HARQUITECTES, a Barcelona-based studio founded in 2000 by David Lorente, Josep Ricart, Xavier Ros, and Roger Tudó. The lecture will explore the firm's approach to architectural design grounded in collaboration, material experimentation, and contextual sensitivity through selected projects and reflections on their ongoing practice in Europe and beyond.

Biography

HARQUITECTES is an architecture studio founded in 2000 by David Lorente, Josep Ricart, Xavier Ros, and Roger Tudó. They combine their professional activity with teaching at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia Faculty of Architecture (ETSAV and ETSAB), the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich, and the Harvard University Graduate School of Design. The studio has also been invited to institutions such as the Porto Academy, the Architectural Association School of Architecture, the University of Texas at Austin, the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, École d’Architecture Paris-Villemin, and Umeå School of Architecture.

The HARQUITECTES are: David Lorente, Josep Ricart, Xavier Ros, Roger Tudó, Montse Fornés, Maya Torres, Eva Millán, Marta Domènech, Itziar González, Guillermo de Alfonso, Mariona Dalmau, Mariona Blanch, Cristina Vega, Meritxell Compte, Martí Font, Laia Sala, Marc Puigdemasa, Xavi Pizà, Toni Gual, Pol Sánchez, Bernat Bosom and Neus Rodríguez.

They have received several national and international awards, and their work has been widely published and exhibited, including monographs in El Croquis, A+U, Arquitectura Viva, AV Monographs, and 2G.
