Abstract
As part of the Cornell in Rome Fall 2025 Lecture Series, architect Gustav Düsing will deliver Space Marking, a lecture hosted by the Department of Architecture at Roma Tre University. Düsing's practice is rooted in continuous experimentation with space, materials, and structures, exploring how architecture can respond to pressing environmental and socio-political challenges. The lecture situates his work within the broader discourse of contemporary European architecture, highlighting projects that merge design innovation with cultural and ecological responsibility.
Biography
Gustav Düsing studied architecture at the University of Stuttgart and the Architectural Association in London and is a registered architect in Berlin. His work has been exhibited internationally, including at the first Antarctic Biennale (2017), and recognized with numerous honors such as the 2020 Rome Prize for Architecture, the 2023 German Architecture Prize, and the 2024 DAM Award. Together with Max Hacke, Düsing received the 2024 EUmies Award. He was an Artist-in-Residence at the German Academy in Rome, Villa Massimo (2020–21), and has taught at TU Braunschweig, Roma Tre, and Cornell AAP; in 2024, he was appointed Guest Professor at UdK Berlin. His Berlin-based studio is dedicated to developing innovative architectural responses to contemporary social and ecological concerns.
