Karr Receives Semmes Award

in June, Steven J. Karr, AIA (B.S. Human Ecology 78, B.Arch. 79), president of Steven J. Karr, AIA Inc., received the first Harry Semmes Award in appreciation of significant contributions to Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County, MD. The award, named in honor of Habitat's emeritus board member and longtime advocate Harry Semmes, recognized Karr for having assembled a volunteer team of leading designers, and as a key volunteer. Karr, a past president of the Potomac Valley Chapter of the American Institute of Architects, was also awarded the chapter's 2004 Paul H. Kea, FAIA Medal for Service to the Profession for all his volunteer activities.
