Infinite Impermanence showcases the poetics of emergent patterns and the expressivity of mathematical description. A central theme is the activator-inhibitor model, systems of equations that seem to account for a stunning variety of patterns in biology. Importantly, these "self-regulating" equations succinctly describe the elusive balance of order and unpredictability found in nature. Alongside a real-time simulation of these equations, Jonathan Pang (B.F.A./B.A. '22) presents works that each act as a different personal investigation of the activator-inhibitor model, ranging from paintings and drawings to digital sculptures and A.I. generated images.
