Installation Raises Awareness of Korean Border
"Border::Passage," by Cornell art majors Seo Hyung Lee and Hannah Naomi Kim, was installed on the Arts Quad of Cornell University during the weekend of November 10. Coinciding with a conference addressing the religious, political, and human rights situation in North Korea, the installation sought to encourage viewer participation and become a passageway to understanding.
Walking between the parallel borders was intended to provide a physical experience of the split between the two Koreas — and the act of traversing the passage became a metaphor for the intervention needed to challenge the border that conceals immense humanitarian atrocities committed against North Koreans.
