Friend of AAP, David Teiger, Dies at 85
David Teiger '51, a graduate of the School of Hotel Administration and founding donor for the Teiger Mentor in the Arts Program, died last week at age 85. Teiger was a renowned contemporary art collector and patron of curatorial projects and exhibitions throughout the United States and Europe.
"My condolences go out to David's family and friends," says Kent Kleinman, Gale and Ira Drukier Dean. "Working with David was an experience I will never forget. His passion for contemporary art was contagious and his advocacy for artistic excellence was inspiring. The art world has lost a champion."
Cornell's Teiger Mentor in the Arts Program was established in 2013 and brings a different internationally acclaimed artist to Cornell each semester to make ongoing visits to undergraduate and graduate studios and seminar classes.
"The Department of Art has benefited greatly from David Teiger's gift," says Associate Professor and Chair Michael Ashkin. "The artists that have been on campus, thanks to Mr. Teiger, have elevated our programs and allowed our students to connect with some of the most important contemporary artists."
