thumbnail. is a student organization that serves as an open forum for the exchange of ideas, based on the model of PechaKucha, an event devised for young designers to meet, network, and show their work in public. thumbnail. aims to encourage the Cornell community, in its many incarnations, to incite, enliven, and cross-fertilize ideas from many disciplines through a visually-based platform designed around a single topic. The format is explicit: 20 slides at 20 seconds each.
The Cornell Journal of Architecture (CJoA) is a critical journal of architecture and urbanism produced by editors in the Department of Architecture at AAP. Established in 1981, the journal has been the locus of a critical discussions emanating from the study of architecture at Cornell.
In celebration of thumbnail.’s first anniversary and the CJoA’s ninth publication, thumbnail. and CJoA are joining forces to present the event figures. Figures will include an exciting mix of thumbnail. — curated faculty, students, staff, and editors and contributors from CJoA’s Issue 9, MATHEMATICS: From the Ideal to the Uncertain. Please join us for a night full of everything from letters, photos, collages, poetry, dissections, confessions, seeds for thought — the only rules are figures and 20 x 20.
This event is being held in conjunction with the Department of Architecture's Graduate Student Open House. Attendees of the open house are welcome to attend.
