Exhibition Abstract

Based on the poetry collection Salt by Nayyirah Waheed, this exhibition highlights the pain, happiness, love, and healing of maternal relationships. This exhibition is an open dialogue with concepts of coddling and smothering, revealing the parallels between generational trauma and generational love. Salt is a rediscovery of ancient and sacred mediums, such as cochineal, fresco, and intaglio, to redefine my matrilineality — reconnecting of ancient mediums to understand the origins of mother, daughter, and grandmother.
