Celebrating Susan Christopherson: The Joy of Learning in Service to the World
On April 29, the Department of City and Regional Planning hosted a celebration of the life of professor, mentor, and colleague Susan Christopherson in the Abby and Howard Milstein Auditorium and the Milstein Hall dome.
The celebration commemorated Christopherson's many contributions to both the Department of City and Regional Planning and the field of economic geography; her dedication to public policy; and the myriad ways she influenced and advocated for her many students over the course of nearly 30 years at Cornell.
A recipient of lifetime achievement awards from both the American Association of Geographers and the Regional Studies Association, Christopherson brought her positive dynamism to every interaction, conveying a general sense of optimism, practicality, and infinite possibility. Hers was a wonderful mix of the intellectual and the down-to-earth, and her passion for bettering the lives of all people is a model for us all.
Events included a program of live music and presentations by colleagues, friends, and family members from Cornell and beyond, followed by a reception.
From Friday, April 28, through Sunday, April 30, an exhibition on Christopherson and her research and publications was on display in Milstein Hall dome.
Also included in the weekend of special events was a panel organized by the Women's Planning Forum on Friday, April 28.
