Brendan MacFarlane: Digital Waters
Brendan MacFarlane, born in New Zealand, is a principal of Jakob+MacFarlane, an architectural firm based in Paris. The firm’s work explores digital technology both as a conceptual consideration and as a means of fabrication, using new materials as a possibility to create more flexible, responsive, and immediate environments. Jakob+MacFarlane regularly participates in invited competitions and recently won first honorable mention at the International Taipei Performing Arts Center Competition, Taiwan. The firm’s completed projects include the T House at La Garenne Colombes, Paris; Restaurant Georges, Paris; the reconstruction of the Theatre of Pont-Audemer, Pont-Audemer, France; the Docks of Paris project, which includes a fashion and design center; and three buildings for the 100 Apartments Project in Paris. Current projects include the Docks of Lyon with two buildings in Lyon; the new Frac Architecture Exhibition Center in Orléans; and the Swiss Cultural Center in Paris. MacFarlane received his bachelor of architecture from the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc), and his masters of architecture from the Harvard Graduate School of Design. He has held teaching positions at the Bartlett School of Architecture in London, at the Ecole Spéciale d’Architecture in Paris, and at SCI-Arc.
