CRP Well Represented at Upcoming ACSP Conference

The Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning (ACSP) will hold its Annual Conference from October 7-8 & 21-23, 2021. Originally planned to be hosted in Miami, the conference shifted to a fully virtual format due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Registration can be found here.

The conference incorporates sessions specifically geared toward its member school administrators, students on the job market, and events for the ACSP interest groups of faculty women, planners of color, global planning educators and its newest group, Inclusion – LGBTQIA + Allies.

Cornell faculty, Ph.D. students, and alumni will join the conference to participate in a variety of virtual functions, including roundtable discussions and abstract paper presentations.

Professor Sara Bronin will be one of two keynote speakers at the Annual Conference. Bronin will address climate justice as part of her keynote address entitled, “Do we know what we need to know, to change what we need to change?”

Assistant Professor Linda Shi participated in a pre-conference interactive workshop titled, “Climate Change & Planning Pedagogy.” The workshop fostered interaction among the community of planning scholars and worked to expand this community by inviting others to begin including climate change into existing teaching.

In Part II of the conference, Professor Emeritus Pierre Clavel will participate in a session that honors his six decades of engaged scholarship and equity planning efforts. The session titled, The Progressive City and City: An Antidote to Contemporary Neo-Liberalism, will be held on October 21st, from 4:20-5:50 pm.

Additionally, Professor Jennifer Minner is serving as the Conference Chair for the ACSP (term 2021-2023) and Luis Santiago is serving as a local co-host for the conference is a CRP Ph.D. alumnus, Class of 1999.

As for the Ph.D. students, the conference will provide opportunities to augment their current research and dissertation topics with other scholars pursuing similar interest tracks in planning research.

Ph.D. candidate Euna Kim said, “The annual ACSP brings together diverse planning scholars all over the world who study various issues. It is a great opportunity to not only to get to know those who have similar interests with you, but also to explore completely different research arenas and cutting-edge work. Looking forward to exchanging ideas, connecting with people, and expanding my purview.”
